Biomimetic Posterior Restorations
Beautiful restorations designed to last in the real World
Direct composite restorations are an essential treatment modality for the general dental practitioner. With the immense developments in composite resin material science, the modern direct posterior composite restoration is capable of providing a long-lasting and beautiful restoration that mimics nature. This lecture will provide an overview of the fundamental principles associated with the biomimetic direct posterior composite restoration.
Achieving true biomimetics requires an understanding of the materials at our disposal and how these relate to natural morphology and structure. Basic principles such as cavity optimisation, matrixing and layering strategies allow us to maximise the properties of our modern materials. Furthermore, mastery of essential anatomy, simple characterisation and refined polishing techniques facilitate the creation of truly beautiful and natural direct restorations.
